Returns an account's balance in lamports.

What it does

A lamport is 10^-9 SOL. The call is a single account lookup, so it is one of the cheapest state reads Solana offers.

The response carries the standard context envelope, so the balance is under `result.value` rather than `result` directly.

Things that bite

  • Lamports, not SOL. Divide by 10^9.
  • An account that has never existed returns 0 rather than an error, so zero balance and no such account are indistinguishable here.

Why it is measured

The cheapest Solana state read, which isolates account-lookup cost from the network path measured by getVersion.

Called every 120 seconds per endpoint, with jitter so the fleet does not hit a provider in lockstep.
